Glint

Misused, confused,
My trust abused,
Your burning hands
Were not refused.

My life forsook,
Your touch, your look;
My reputation,
Cost enough.

But how you lied,
I'm cast aside,
My dreams, destroyed,
To feed your pride.

And now that
 By your hands to die,
I see it now,
The reason why.
That devil quick,
to spite, to fly,
The glint, that evil,
In your eye.

The Blinkered Man

She saw his hunger,
And fed him,
A morsel at a time.
Tiny crumbs from her table;
So small,
She hardly even noticed them.

Not him.

To him,

Ambrosia would have tasted sour by comparison.

A lapdog to his own ideals,
Her presence almost incidental,
To the fantasy in his mind.

So willingly he paid the price,
His torment meant as little to her
As mewling puppies.

Oh blinkered man!
Her cunning wrapped you in perfumed deceit,
And robbed you blind.

Too late, he saw,
Too late,
Where duplicity dripped;
What cruel manners she employed,
To put him from his friends,
His funds, his life.

So blinded by his pointless tears
He didn't see the signs,
Or feel which way the wind blew.

But in willingly delivering to her,
His heart;
He sealed his fate.

In fact,
So complicit was he,
In his own demise,
He hardly felt
The dying tremors
When she left him.

My love in a nutshell

They sang us
A rainbow of joy;

Each note as
Pure as a pearl.

Happiness surrounded us,
And
My whole world shone.

And then....

You were gone,
Leaving me with,
Nothing.

Only a single tear,

Flooding my desert
With
Infinite sorrow.

Isadora

Immoral yearnings drift
Through my sleep and dreams,
As wicked oracles relive my actions,
Over and over again.

Litanies in flame,
Engulfing terror,
Incinerating minds,
Encapsulating suns.

Such eternal ravages reveal my weakened heart.

Oh my Endora Nephalim,
Desire entertained such desire,
Until dread enemies invaded our world,
And stood laughing.

Our vows exterminated we watched others lie across universes.

But my love was always yours my heart,
Beautiful, exciting....

Why isn't this heaven?

Madness it seems, such over under love.

Yet our universe remains still,
From beneath ruins and over monuments,
Crying and touching.

Isadora,
I saw you in the snowstorm and you swallowed my mind.

Betrayal

Vermilion,
She smiling said,
Is not the colour I most dread.

And staring down into my eyes,
She smiled a killers smile.

'Far worse than that
Is ruby red,
That shade I really do despise.'

Oh how I wept,
My life betrayed,
As sunlight sparkled off her blade.

And staring up into her eyes,
I knew my time was done.

Betrayed, in red,
And leaking death,
I paid in full for all my lies.

Loose Words

I opened my mouth and a foot fell out.
Again,
 I hadn't looked before I spoke.
If I'd been a car
You would have wrecked me,
Over a cliff perhaps, so you could watch.

Would I have eaten my own words as I fell?

I opened my mouth and a foot fell out.
I wish you'd used one on me,
Before I could speak,
Before I could....Well you know.

If I open my eyes now, will you have gone??

My Gran

I want to see my Gran again,
I can't and that's not fair,
She's in my head,
Come rain and shine,
Why can't she still be here?

Why can't I see her
Coming through the kitchen
With a smile,
She wrapped me in
Such gentle love
I felt myself worthwhile.

So many things have happened
Since she died,
So much to share
So many stories to be told..
Why can't my Gran be here?

Still,
I use the things she gave me,
Keep her memory strong and clear.
Remembering years of happy days
These trinkets keep her near.

And if I want to hold her close,
And hug her now and then,
Well that's OK,
It's only 'cause
I miss my lovely Gran.

Arlman

Arlman sat, alone, unrecognised,
And watched a thousand years pass.
He sat, and waited, petrified;
Just waiting to be seen.
Until one night, a woman came.
He saw her look, he felt her gaze.
She stared at him,
She looked again,
And then she walked away.
Far worse to have been seen and not seen.
Far, far worse.
He raged alone.
He prayed alone.
But not in vain.
Something had changed.
Seen but not know.
Known but not known.
And back she came, to his dark place.
And looked again.
And saw.

The Mirror

Don't get the mirror, no, don't touch,
She will not look,
She's lost too much.
Her face;
That once upon a time,
Was all reflected, always fine;
Has changed;
For time, a jealous thing
Has wrinkles ploughed into her skin.

Her once bright beauty's lost beneath
Her faded, powdered, puckered cheek,
And bitterness has gripped her brow
No laughter lines, just fish mouth now.
A fortune spent, to no avail
Her face it tells a sorry tale,
Regardless of their creams and lies
A sagging hangs around her eyes,
And even knives could not defend
From botox scars, for in the end
This mirror tells a bitter truth
Old age has clearly stolen youth.

Far better had she faced the fact
That being eighteen would not last
And focused on the her inside
The soul her vanity denied,
Perhaps instead of fear and doubt
Her spirit would have shouted out
And made the most of what she'd got,
Instead of leaving hope to rot
Perhaps she would have seen the truth
There's more to life than craving youth.

Returned Unopened

'Returned unopened,'
They'd writ it on her grave,
A script from those she'd tried to save.

Poor woman, held in such regard
Was nonetheless so cold and hard
She never took a soul to love
Nor shared her heart, or part thereof.

’twas not an unkind sentiment,
The words were grave and truly meant.
She'd served the church and died alone
A well respected lost, old crone.

For praying that her Lord approved
She'd had her joyfulness removed

And so, they thought, he ought to know
To just what lengths she'd had to go
To earn his love, within his church
(For that was how she'd measured worth)

A virgin, pure in soul was she
Alone 'til she was ninety three
And now returned to whence she came
'Returned unopened'
Was written on her grave.

Like a Stranger at a Bus Stop

I sat in traffic today on my way to a meeting and watched for a few minutes, the interaction of a couple at a bus stop. At least, I imagined they were a couple. They didn't actually speak but he looked, she glared, they moved apart. He looked again. The bus came, and pulled away. He had gone but I could see her walking away from the bus stop. This is what I imagined he though as he sat on the bus, alone.

Like a stranger at a bus stop you looked at me,
Your rage obvious in your clenched shoulders,
Your silent mouth,
Your telepathic tantrum drumming in my head,
'don't make a fuss, don't embarrass yourself'.
Your eyes narrow like a lobster,
'You are less to me than dust'.
I open my mouth, to plead, to reason
But you are gone,
In a waft of perfumed air,
Face averted,
Like a stranger at a bus stop.

Think before you speak

I opened my mouth and a foot fell out.
Again,
 I hadn't looked before I spoke.
If I'd been a car
You would have wrecked me,
Over a cliff perhaps, so you could watch.

Would I have eaten my own words as I fell?

I opened my mouth and a foot fell out.
I wish you'd used one on me,
Before I could speak,
Before I could....Well you know.

A morsel at a time.
Tiny crumbs from her table;
So small she hardly even noticed them.
Not him.
To him
Ambrosia would have tasted sour by comparison.

A lapdog to his own ideals
Her reality was paler than the fantasy she was in his mind.

Oh blinkered man,
Her cunning has wrapped you in a perfumed deceit,
And robbed you blind.

So willingly he paid the price,
It finally meant as little to her as drowning puppies.

Too late, he saw, too late,

He hardly even trembled as as she left him.

Being Alone

..............................
And now being alone causes infinite sorrow,
A ponderous torture known only to one;
Destroying her mind and corrupting her thinking
The joy of her happier life has all gone.

Because double edged silences cut in her daydreams,
A mouthful of whisky, she screams at the one,
At the memory of days when she should have known better;
But that's far behind her, the damage is done.

Now she's caught in a trap she created with cruelty,
Discarding her friends, living only for one,
Being stronger than all whilst inside she was crumbling;
Being needed so much...now the tears start to run.

For the love she destroyed with her stupid insistence,
'It doesn't mean anything, you're not the one.
I can live without needing that one special person.'
She was wrong, still she needs him;
The pain carries on.
