Friday

Friday has come......
AT LAST!
It's a good job we've got the week
In between,
Otherwise we'd spend far too much time
On Friday's,
And not enough time
Looking forward to them.
Oh, for a week full of Fridays!

Repeat

At first I thought I couldn't,
And then I thought I could,
But never sure I shouldn't,
I wasn't sure I should.
It wasn't that I wouldn't,
It's probable I would,
For anything you shouldn't do
Is sure to turn out good.

Holidays

On Gili Trewangan,
I've lost my sandles,
I don't mind,
It's party time!
The weathers hot,
They've got the lot,
The waters warm and lovely,
The food is
Scrum-dee-bubbly.
Oh dear,
I think I must away,
And soak my brain
Once more today.
Before the evening
comes around
To kickin' drinks
And rockin sounds!

Kindle my Desire

My Kindle came,
I don't know when,
I haven't looked up
Once since then.

Cake

I remember being a girl in Lancashire. It was a happy, happy time! I was of the rosy cheeked variety of child, a little on the plump side I think, but that could just be my poetic memory playing tricks on me.

Oh, and how I remember the bakeries. In fact, happily, one still exists in the village where I grew up. Every time I go to visit my parents I make sure I visit the bakery to keep my memory refreshed. No one makes cakes like that!

Todays poem was written from the perspective of a 7 year old Lancashire lass. I hope you like it!!

CAKE

It weren't the very biggest, or the one with all the cream,
It weren't the one with icing, like a sculpture makers dream.
It weren't the one with marzipan or jam or strawberry flakes
But what it were, it were the cake he gave me by mistake.

'Cause what was this he passed across the counter like a twit?
Where was the sticky chocolate sauce I'd dreamt would cover it,
Where was the soft, warm sponge inside, where were the chocolate chips?
What sad and sorry disappointing anti-cake was this?

Not even one sad cherry sat upon it's flattened top
Where once the cherry'd sat was now a grubby, yellow spot,
And nowhere was there evidence of almonds or of jam
Just a dry and crumbling biscuit sat offending in my hand

'But Mr, that's the one I want, that strawberry chocolate one,
The one with all the icing, look, that lovely, sticky bun!!
Please take this back, it's horrid and think I see a hair
I really couldn't eat it if the cat has been back there!'

He looked at me with pity, I could see it in his face
He looked and me and then I knew I'd made a big mistake
With only 50p to spend such choice was but a lie
That's why the cake I left with was a badly made mince pie.

Happiness

It's an interesting concept happiness.
Or to be more accurate, the feeling of happiness.
Being happy.
It's a state of mind, and body.
What the brain brains, the body bodies.
We all know how it feels (I am rather making the assumption that we've all been happy in our lives, even if it was only that one time, many years ago, just before...well, never mind that!)
It's something that is almost impossible to describe.
It's more that a sense of well being, of everything being right with the world.
It feels like liberation to me.
Liberation from every other thought, every other feeling, every other concern.
In that moment all we are is, well....Happiness.
If I had to give it a colour, and why wouldn't I?
That's a perfectly normal thing to do.
If I had to give it a colour it would be bright sunshine yellow. With gold flecks. Lovely.

I've heard it said that you can see a persons soul in their face when they smile and hear their inner thoughts when they laugh.
I think that's fine.
Most people are feeling good thoughts when they smile so we're going to see the good, I say most people, there's always the odd one that's planning mass murder, or maybe perpetrating line dancing.

Although, now I come to think about it I'm not sure about the laughter thing.
I had a friend who's laugh sounded like a cross between a donkey and a rusty gate.
If that noise represented her inner thoughts I don't think I want to know what she was thinking about!!

I like feeling happy.
Sometimes I forget this though.
Sometimes for days at a time.
But there always comes a point when I remember.
I don't want to feel like this any more. I want to feel happy.
And when I want a 'quick happy' this is the picture I look at.
My mum and me on my wedding day, about 10 minutes before I became a Mrs.
This is how I feel when I really feel happy.

I'd recommend it to everyone.
Please, take time out for a 'quick happy' in your day and say 'YES' to those endorphines!!
