Mirror Mirror by Spike Milligan

One of my all time favourites, I think the writing of Spike Milligan is very special. His War (and Peace) memoirs, were the first books that made my cry with laughter. I was about 14 at the time. The joy is, that there are always gems to discover, or re-discover.

I found this one today. Simply brilliant.

Mirror Mirror

A young spring-tender girl
Combed her joyous hair
'You are very ugly' said the mirror.
But,
On her lips hung
A smile of dove-secret loveliness,
For only that morning had not
The blind boy said,
'You are beautiful'?

Spike

I must go down to the sea again,
The wonderful sea and sky,
I lost my socks and vest down there,
I wonder if they're dry?

Love it.
